Mark 2:1-12

1Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man Matthew 9:1-8; Luke 5:17-26

Several days later Jesus
Lit. he
returned to Capernaum, and it was reported that he was at home.Matt 9:1; Luke 5:18
2So many crowds had gathered that there wasn't any room left for them, even in front of the door. Jesus
Lit. He
was speaking the word to them
3when some people
Lit. they
came and brought him a paralyzed man being carried by four men.
4Since they couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof over the place where he was. They dug through it and let down the cot on which the paralyzed man was lying.

5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

6Now some scribes were sitting there, arguing among themselves,
Lit. in their hearts
7“Why does this man talk this way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”Job 14:4; Isa 43:25

8At once, Jesus knew in his spirit what they were saying to themselves. He said to them, “Why are you arguing about such things among yourselves?
Lit. in your hearts
Matt 9:4
9Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your cot, and walk’?Matt 9:5 10But I want you to know
Lit. So that you will know
that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”

Then he said to the paralyzed man,
11“I say to you, get up, pick up your cot, and go home!” 12So the man
Lit. he
got up, immediately picked up his cot, and went out before all of them.

As a result, all of the people were amazed and began to glorify God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Luke 5:17-26

your sins are forgiven.”

21The scribes and the Pharisees began to argue among themselves, saying, “Who is this man who is uttering blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”Ps 32:5; Isa 43:25; Matt 9:3; Mark 2:6-7

22Because Jesus knew that they were arguing, he said to them, “Why are you arguing about this among yourselves?
Lit. in your hearts
23Which is easier: to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say ‘Get up and walk’? 24But I want you to know
Lit. So that you will know
that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then he said to the paralyzed man, “I say to you: Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home!”
25So the man
Lit. he
immediately stood up in front of them and picked up what he had been lying on. Then he went home, praising God.

26Amazement seized all the people, and they began to praise God. They were filled with fear

and declared, “We have seen wonderful things today!”
